Project Description

The Ballpark at America First Square is the new home of the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees and the centerpiece of Downtown Daybreak, a 200-acre mixed-use district in South Jordan, Utah. Designed by HOK and built by Okland Construction, the privately funded 8,000-seat stadium blends modern amenities with an intimate baseball experience. The facility features field-level VIP suites, flexible club areas, and a 12,000-square-foot clubhouse with Major League–caliber training spaces and batting cages.

A defining element of the design is its façade, fabricated by Zahner, using Angel Hair® Stainless Steel and ImageWall® Perforated Metal Panel System. Inspired by the surrounding Wasatch Mountains, the 358 perforated stainless steel panels create a dynamic play of light and shadow during the day, transforming into a glowing landmark at night with backlighting. This mountain motif anchors the ballpark to its setting, while also providing ventilation and visual texture to the overall form.

Zahner design and engineering experts collaborated closely with the architects at HOK to support their vision of a subtly twisting facade, providing guidance on its complex geometric design parameters. Unique component modeling in Rhino and Grasshopper was also necessary. Zahner handled panel installation.

The stadium integrates seamlessly into America First Square, activating the public realm with concerts, festivals, seasonal activities, and retail destinations. With more than 200 annual events and an anticipated draw of over one million visitors each year, The Ballpark at America First Square serves as both a world-class sports venue and a catalyst for community and cultural life in the region.
