Spectura was discovered by accident while working on 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue – The Mills Building with the renowned real estate investment and development firm Akridge. While experimenting with a darkened custom patina for zinc, one of the formulations produced a remarkable iridescent effect.
That formula was cataloged and tested further on larger sheets with various application methods and dwell times which were found to lighten or darken the iridescent effect depending on titration and timing. The solution used to create the effect does not contain any strong bases or acids, does not harm the environment, and the cured finish can be easily cleaned with common glass cleaners.
All Zahner Surfaces are manufactured to the highest standards of environmental protection and wastewater mitigation in our Grand Prairie, Texas facility. Our state-of-the-art wastewater ion exchange system recirculates and deionizes rinse waters from patina baths to remove residual minerals or solvents, allowing water to be neutralized and recycled, and dry waste to be kept to a minimum.
