FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a list of frequently asked questions for inquiries into working with Zahner. To get in touch with a Zahner representative, fill out the project inquiry form, or contact [email protected]
DOES ZAHNER HAVE A REP IN MY AREA?
Most of our sales and marketing staff is based in our headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., however, we also maintain a sales office in Los Angeles that covers the Western states. If you are interested in speaking to an expert at Zahner Headquarters or Zahner West, please contact us.
DOES ZAHNER OFFER AIA ACCREDITED LUNCH & LEARNS?
Zahner is not currently set up to offer AIA credits for Lunch & Learns. However, our team frequently travels to give presentations in pursuit of various jobs/marketing opportunities. To learn more about how to schedule a presentation for your office, contact us.
WHAT IS THE LEAD TIME FOR MY PROPOSED PROJECT?
Each of the material processes has a different lead time, and will largely depend on the current queue of jobs when your project begins. Lead time is contingent on Zahner’s queue upon the first down payment of the proposed project.
WHAT IS THE ROUGH ORDER OF MAGNITUDE (ROM) FOR YOUR TRADEMARKED PATINAS?
For pricing on flat sheet goods, please provide a cut list, noting desired sheet size, thickness, and quantities. For fabricated wall panels or facade systems, please send preliminary documents and one of our estimators will review the project and begin the conversation about costs.
WILL YOUR TRADEMARKED PATINAS CHANGE OVER TIME?
All of Zahner’s trademarked patinas for exterior application will continue to advance with age. A patina is essentially “grown” on the surface, rather than painted. As a result, the surface is under a continuous oxidation process and will change and strengthen over time. For more information, contact us.
DO YOU SELL YOUR CUSTOM METALS IN FLAT SHEETS (WITHOUT ANY FABRICATION)?
Zahner sells trademarked finishes and patinated metals in raw sheets. There are special considerations that should be taken when post-fabricating Zahner’s patinated sheets, such as keeping the sheet in a temperature/moisture controlled area. If water, grease, or other contaminates are allowed to pool on the sheets, there is definite risk for irreversible damage.
To get an estimate for sheet pricing or to receive guidance on proper storage and fabrication methods for our sheet goods email a Zahner representative with the project takeoff or cut list.
HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST TO PERFORATE METALS FOR INTERIOR APPLICATIONS?
Zahner offers a free in-browser tool called ImageWall as part of the ShopFloor suite. ImageWall allows customers to upload an image and experiment with the design and specifications of their proposed perforated panels. At the same time, ImageWall gives the customer instant pricing to expedite decision making for the customer. Learn more about ImageWall on our ImageWall website.
HOW MUCH DO YOUR SAMPLES COST?
Zahner provides 8” x 10.5” samples of the trademarked finishes free of charge. Due to the high volume of sample requests, Zahner does ask their clients to provide a FedEx, UPS, or DHL shipping number or label to cover the cost of shipping.
If you are looking for a unique surface, a member of the Zahner sales team will work with you to develop a custom surface to fit the desired aesthetic. Because Zahner works on a highly custom basis, and in nearly any metal, the palate of samples we can provide is fairly limitless. To find out more about the process of developing a custom patina or to order a sample set of our trademarked surfaces, contact us.
I DON’T HAVE A SHIPPING NUMBER. HOW CAN I RECEIVE A SAMPLE FROM ZAHNER?
In the absence of a shipping number, clients can visit UPS or FedEx’s website to create a label to send to Zahner via email. Before making a shipping label, speak to a Zahner representative to determine the size and weight of your sample package. Then you can go to either the FedEx or UPS Create a Shipment page and fill out the form. Make sure you specify Zahner as the shipper and select Bill the Receiver. It will give you the label as a PDF file that can be emailed to a Zahner representative for shipping.
Due to the high volume of sample requests, Zahner requires that either a shipping number or PDF label is provided, in order to cover the shipping cost. There is no material charge for the physical sample.
WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS DOES ZAHNER WORK ON?
Zahner welcomes both challenging, complex architectural projects and simple flat sheet orders. Zahner works on a wide variety of projects, from exterior cladding to interior paneling and art fabrication. Often, designers will contact Zahner at the early design phase of a project for help with various iterations of a design, for assistance with engineering, and to construct mockups for review.
To learn more about the various types of projects Zahner works on, see our portfolio page. For more information on Design Assist and how to integrate Zahner for your project, feel free to contact us.
WHAT MATERIAL OR ROOFING/WALL SYSTEM WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR MY PROJECT?
Because every project varies and our materials and roofing/wall systems work better in certain scenarios over others, please send any drawings, renderings, or mockups along with a description of your project to a Zahner representative for review.
DOES ZAHNER CREATE CUSTOM PATINAS OR DEVELOP CUSTOM SAMPLES?
Yes! Zahner can work with your design to develop a patinated surface that matches their design intent and project goals. Several of the Zahner trademarked patinas started out as custom patinas for projects. Roano Zinc originated from the Taubman Museum of Art, and Hunter Zinc originated from the Hunter Museum of American Art.
Custom samples can be ordered initially to help in the research and development of a project as well. For more information, contact a representative at Zahner.
DOES ZAHNER SELL ALUMINUM COMPOSITE?
Zahner’s sustainability mission urges designers to recognize the lasting value of stainless steel, copper, and zinc, which are up to 90% post-consumer materials. In addition, these quality metal materials are readily recycled at the end of their long life cycle.
At the end of their life, the majority of these ACM panels end up in landfills. Rather than “thickening” a panel through use of ACM composite materials, Zahner is able to increase the thickness of the metal itself, resulting in a higher quality material with greater longevity.
DOES ZAHNER SELL COILS?
Zahner does not sell or stock coil. There are certain projects where we will use coil materials, but it isn’t something that we currently offer.
