GB-60 is a uniform, non-directional mechanical finish with a satin aesthetic and ambient reflectivity. It is available as a flat sheet good or for specification within a Zahner project.
GB-60’s diffuse finish, nearly crystalline in appearance, offers a soft shine — and a velvety alternative to highly reflective stainless steel finishes.
GB-60 appears bright and deep in full sunlight. On cloudy days, it takes on the appearance of pewter. Low sun makes it glow purple and reddish silver.
To achieve this pleasing diffusion of light without mottling, the metal surface is blasted with minute beads before further refinement.
During the early 1990s, Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) architects required a contemporary non-directional finish on stainless steel with a gentle matte glow. As no metal manufacturers offered such a finish, KPF Associates worked with Zahner to develop GB-60 as an in-house product.
Selective polishing is a custom finish option that can create distinctive patterns on GB-60 metals through special resists. The areas of the surface that are left exposed receive textured polishing through blasting or brushing techniques. This results in an alternating reflectivity for an eye-catching appearance.
