SoFi Stadium, one of the NFL’s newest and most innovative super stadiums, opened with much excitement in September 2020, and it continues to create buzz among architects, contractors and NFL fans alike.
The stadium, designed by HKS, has a canopy made of a translucent ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) membrane at the top and is surrounded by 34,789 perforated anodized aluminum exterior panels manufactured by Zahner.
Light Metal Age, a bi-monthly publication that covers the entire value chain of the aluminum industry, featured an article about the stadium’s opening and Zahner’s aluminum knowledge and engineering expertise with panel specifications, anodization, custom colors, perforations, and attachment points.
The exclusive Frost White anodized aluminum finish was developed specially to stand out against the blue sky, but also to have a matte finish so as not to create dangerous glare for air traffic flying directly overhead to and from the Los Angeles International Airport.
