Today in history we mourn a tragedy that occurred 34 years, when the skywalk collapsed at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Kansas City. The disaster forever changed the engineering practice, making clear the grave responsibility which engineers hold.

The collapse of the skywalk at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Kansas City is a disaster that forever changed the engineering practice, making clear the grave responsibility that engineers hold.

As both an engineering design consultancy as well as a fabrication and manufacturing plant, this responsibility is close to our hearts, which is why Zahner paid tribute by donating services for the construction of the Skywalk memorial.

Ground was broken for the Skywalk Memorial on July 17th, 2015 at 22nd Street and Gillham Road. It will include the names of the 114 people who died 34 years ago, on Friday July 17th, 1981. The artwork is designed by local artist Rita Blitt.
